Students will learn and practice coping strategies to help them manage feelings of stress, worry, and angst. They will be able to recognize signals of stress within themselves, and then identify and employ positive strategies and techniques to help them counter those negative feelings and replace them with positive alternatives.
While this course is designed to simply present general coping strategies to combat stress/worry/anxiety, and should not be a replacement for counseling/psychological services, I do have my Master's degree in Psychology and worked as a Certified School Psychologist within the school system for seven years.
Students should have paper and something to write with. Also, if students would like to participate during class in creating their very own stress ball, they should have the following prepared for class: 2 Balloons (medium or large, not yet inflated) 1 sandwich bag (or a funnel, or top cut-off part of a water/soda bottle) Flour (or Rice) A spoon Scissors I'll demonstrate two different ways to make the stress ball - one with a sandwich bag, and one with a funnel. Students can choose either one, or can bring extra balloons/flour/rice if they want to try both!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
