Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
This class is designed to be included in a study of European or World history, and some basic background knowledge of Europe in the Renaissance/Reformation period would be helpful, but not strictly necessary. I will provide historical context, including a brief overview of the Ottoman Wars and Protestant Reformation, the importance of the Republic of Venice, Hapsburg Spain and Austria and their holdings, and the role of Pope Pius V in the founding of the Holy League. The class will include a google slide presentation that each student will receive at the beginning of class. The presentation includes images and maps with limited text of the main points - I will provide more information verbally while asking for questions and feedback. I have designed this class to include lots of discussion and involvement from the students. At the end of class, each student will have the opportunity share something they learned or found interesting with the class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a high school history teacher who is homeschooling four delightfully energetic elementary school kids. In addition to teaching my own children, I teach history, economics, music theory, and choir "in person" at our co-op. I hold a Master's of Education, and spent the bulk of my public school career teaching AP European History, Modern European History, and I developed the curriculum for Rise of the Nation State: Russia for my school district. As a life long "history nerd," I make learning history fun because I love it and I want my students to love it too!
