Studying art helps you to understand culture and historical time periods. Art also reflects ambiguous human emotions and ideas that are extraordinarily difficult to express in words. In this course we will explore inventions and art work of Di Vinci. We will define the Renaissance and gain an understanding of the qualities required to be a Renaissance man. The course will be taught through a power point presentation which contains thought provoking questions for students to respond to throughout the lesson. Some slides contain excerpts of reading from encyclopedias and other sources. If we have enough students to do so, these will be read through popcorn reading method (A student reads orally for a time, and then calls out “popcorn” before selecting another student in class to read). If we do not have enough students to popcorn read, the teacher will call on students at random to do oral reading. This course contains some challenging vocabulary such as: fruition, aesthetic, theorems, saper vedere Latin term, emblematic, and Bubonic Plague. The teacher will assist students with pronunciation of difficult vocabulary and explain meanings of unfamiliar words. Prior knowledge of these complex words is not required. The course is really designed for students with a higher reading level, but the teacher can adjust to meet students where they are.
