Lemonade Stand Tycoon: Making Money Moves

Welcome (2 minutes)
  
Greet the kids: “Welcome back, money masters! Today, we’re running a lemonade stand—let’s make some cash!”  

Quick recap: “Who knows what a quarter is worth?” (25¢ cheer!)

Lesson: Giving Change (5 minutes)  
Review coins (1¢, 5¢, 10¢, 25¢).  

Introduce subtraction: “If someone gives you 25¢ for a 10¢ cookie, you give back 15¢ change!”  

Fast game: “Change Challenge” – Show a price and payment (e.g., 10¢ item, paid 25¢), kids shout the change (15¢).

Practice Time (6 minutes)  
Worksheet (pre-sent to parents): Kids solve 2–3 change problems (e.g., 25¢ - 5¢ = ?).  

Review answers quickly together—high-fives all around!

Lemonade Stand Simulation (15 minutes)  
Assign each kid 50¢ in pretend money.  

Show “stand items” on-screen (e.g., lemonade = 25¢, cookie = 10¢, fruit cup= 5¢).  

Kids take turns being the “seller” (set a price) or “buyer” (pay and get change).  
Example: “I sell lemonade for 25¢. You give me 50¢, so I give you 25¢ back!”

Keep it quick and fun—everyone gets a turn to buy or sell!

Wrap-Up (2 minutes)  
Ask: “What would you sell at your own stand? How much would it cost?”  

Recap: “You learned to give change and run a lemonade stand—tycoon time!”  

“Someday, we may open a whole store!”
