How Outschool Works

Overview: This on-going beginner Spanish story time teaches 5-6 Spanish words each class. These words will either be inserted into an English language storybook during the read aloud, or are features of a Spanish language storybook which is read and translated into English along the way. Then learners create a related craft activity which reinforces new Spanish vocabulary words. NOTE: The crafts are kept simple to ensure success for these young learners. This isn't an art class which teaches...
Learners will acquire new Spanish vocabulary through direct instruction, hearing it used in the context of a storybook, and completing a craft project to reinforce its internalization. The craft also doubles as a chance to engage in conversation, try speaking Spanish words, and make new friends. Positive experiences with the Spanish language will make your child more likely to want to pursue Spanish language classes in the future.
RaShae Smith is a Texas certified educator in Spanish, art, and EC-6 with a bachelor's degree from Lubbock Christian University. She taught Spanish to young children at her in home preschool Libelula Spanish School for 5 years before moving to the online platform of Outschool. As a non-native speaker, she demonstrates to all of her students that Spanish classes work and anyone can learn a second language! She is raising her own 3 children to be bilingual and hopes they love Spanish as much as she does.
Learners are NOT assigned homework, but may want to complete their craft project outside of class, if they cannot finish during class time.
This story time class ends with a craft project. In order to be successful in this class, learners must bring their art supplies each class period. Each week, parents will receive a supply list for that week's craft. The supplies needed will include things like a copy of the handout provided, construction paper, a glue stick, googly eyes, scissors, popsicle sticks, markers, etc. PLEASE NOTE: Students should be supervised when working with glue, scissors, etc.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learners are not assessed for this class in any way. The goal of this class is to get learners excited about and interested in the Spanish language.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
PLEASE NOTE: Students should be supervised when working with glue, scissors, etc.
The storybook used in class changes each week. Please see the description above.
