Do you love building with Lego? Perhaps you enjoy reading stories too! This exciting class combines both stories and Lego. Students are encouraged to read to a short story together with the teacher. This class is great for older students who aren't as confident in reading and are able to read simple short stories. During the story, they will be challenged to create different themed items from the story out of Lego. Once the read-aloud has finished, students can use their creations to help...
Students will problem-solve to complete different challenges. Students will participate in a social group and be encouraged to share their creations and comment on others. Students will learn how to create a range of STEAM/STEM projects with their Lego. Students will practice their fine-motor skills. Students will develop basic comprehension skills by retelling the story.
Teacher Cath will be offering this class. She has over 20 years of experience as a Primary teacher here in the UK and is a Lego fanatic with a huge personal collection of Lego herself.
25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
We will read level 5a and 5b Twinkl Rhino Readers stories in class. These are short stories for phonics readers and are easy to follow along with. You do not need the books at home to prepare for the lesson. We will read these together in class. Students are not required to read in the lesson, the focus is on listening skills, building with Lego, and retelling the story verbally.
We use Twinkl stories for this class. We have written authorisation to use their books. Students do not need a copy of the book as we will read these together in class for the purpose of building with Lego through stories.
