Class Experience

The ability to use the spoken word is a key skill in English that is assessed throughout school.
In this one session class students who enjoy the process of telling stories without having to use a pen will have the opportunity to be creative with oral storytelling. This is an ideal class for those who are creative and imaginative but reluctant to write and require greater confidence to begin writing their stories down. It is also a great source of inspiration for those who already enjoy writing but just want a break from it and would relish immersing themselves in oral storytelling instead. Students will have the opportunity to create and tell their own story using building brick builds.
The class will start with a short oral storytelling activity/game. Students will then be given a genre (adventure, sci-fi, mystery etc) and key words which must be included in their story/build (e.g. boy, house, vehicle, pirate etc) they will then be given 30 minutes build time in which they must build a model which tells their story. When the time is up each student will present their model and tell the story that they have created through the modelling process to the class. We will discuss their stories and how each one differs despite all having the same genre and words as stimuli.
Students may take this class multiple times as the key words and genre will change for every session.
This can be used as a stepping stone to further writing sessions or as a one off creative activity.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there,

I am Laura, a teacher living and working in England. I have been a teaching for 18 years and love working with children.

I initially did a BA honours in English literature and then took another year at university to train as an English teacher. I then worked in a number of different high schools and one middle school teaching English, Drama, and Media studies to students aged between 9 and 18. I also tutor students privately in my own home. I have a 12 year old son of my own and we especially enjoy working together on writing projects.

I am very excited to work with young people online and offer exciting and engaging lessons in my specialist subjects.

I am particularly enthused by teaching creative writing in all its forms and am a writer myself.

My lessons are lively and fun and activities are varied to allow for a variety of learning styles.

I look forward to meeting you all and hope to engage and inspire!
