1 live meeting
1 in-class hoursClass Experience
Calling all LEGO fans! Learn everything you need to know to make your own original short stop-motion animation movies with your favorite LEGOs. In this workshop, beginner animators will start by learning the history and mechanics of stop-motion animation, and how it applies to the modern animation techniques they will use in their filmmaking. Next, they will break down the elements of storytelling, and will outline stories for their own short movies. Last, students will watch a live in-class demo of how to animate their LEGOS, including best practices for lighting, in-camera effects, and shooting techniques. They will also have an opportunity for Q&A and troubleshooting. After class, students will be armed and ready to make their own films! *This class is for beginners who have not yet made stop-motion movies, or those who have tried but need help getting started. It covers the basics of animating LEGOS, but it does not cover sound, editing, or advanced techniques. Students seeking a more in-depth experience or those who are already proficient at stop-motion animation should check out my longer course, "The Ultimate LEGO Moviemaking + Editing Experience," which covers beginner and intermediate level animation. NOTE: Students do not make their movies during the class meeting. They will receive instruction so they can then make movies on their own time. They are encouraged to share their projects in the Classroom after they are done!
Learning Goals
Students will learn the mechanics and history of animation, the elements of storytelling, and how to shoot their own original LEGO animation projects.
