Description
Class Experience
This class meets 4 times per week for 2 weeks. There is more homework in this format since this is a normally 8 week class squished into two weeks. Legends of Druidawn® 1.0: Beginners Camp This is an Official Quest Licensed by Druidawn® Inc. written by the creators of Druidawn® Miriam Darnell and Cara Allen. Legends of Druidawn® 1.0 uses cooperative fantasy role playing (dragons, elves, quick-sand OH MY!) to stimulate the imaginations of the players and becomes an excellent source of...
I first experienced Druidawn® as a participant alongside my son. We quickly became enamored with the adventures and with leveling up our beloved characters. Soon I was having fun teaching Druidawn® myself, leading classes through mythical and magical lands. I have been been using Legends of Druidawn® to encourage students to write for many years. Words are currency in Druidawn®. Kids don't HAVE to write, they will WANT to write!
This camp style beginner class squishes 8 weeks of Druidawn®/character "homework" into a single week, so there's a lot of work to accomplish. Homework: Day 1 the homework is necessary as the student needs to create a character. Each day afterwards there will be optional homework. If the student chooses not to do the homework, after day 1, the adventure will likely not be as enjoyable but it's still possible to get through without it. The homework will be explain verbally to the students and posted on Outschool to the parents so that everyone knows what work should be completed. Students can put in as little or as much time as they choose. Their characters will benefit from their efforts. I encourage the students to send me their homework electronically but that is not required. They can do all their homework written on paper and either send me a picture OR just don't send it in at all. Either way is good. Requirement Ability to write at least basic sentences. There is some reading of homework aloud in class. The homework is tailored to YOUR child's abilities. Although most of the homework is optional, I promise your child will want to complete each week's assignment.
7 files available upon enrollmentThere will be handouts. PDF, JPG and Word. A few of the pages the students will need to refer to often. You can keep them all digitally if you are a traveling family or print them all out (about 20-30 pages over the course of the class). You will need 1 20-sided die and 2 6-sided dice during each class. I recommend that each student has a 3 ring binder to keep all their materials in, for easy reference, if printing.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Grading: I do not grade this class but I am happy to chat individually with parents that want to work together to determine a final grade for the class if that is important to them.
4 hours per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
Be aware that this adventure does have various undead attacking the knights. As in all Druidawn® adventures there is always a peaceful option that the knights may choose but quite frequently they choose a chaotic resolution. Blood, weapons, killing are usually part of a chaotic resolution.
