Learning to Read With Phonograms! Part One
In this seven week course your child will take the first step to becoming an amazing reader and you will be a big part of it, with both of you learning all the sounds of the alphabet letters and then blending them together to begin reading!
Class experience
In Part One of Learning to Read with Phonograms your child will be introduced to the alphabet letter phonograms and learn the associated sounds and learn spelling rules. Following that will be opportunities to start blending those sounds to begin reading words. Class 1: • Learn phonograms a, c, d, f • Learn two spelling rules • Sound out words • Introduce practice opportunities Class 2: • Review phonograms learned • Learn phonograms g, o, s, qu • Learn two spelling rules • Sound out...
Students will learn the sounds of the alphabet phonograms, including the THREE sounds of 'a' and 'u' and the FOUR sounds of 'y' which are not typically taught in schools. Students will learn all five reasons for silent final e and other seldom-taught spelling rules. As a result of this learning students will read most words made up of the alphabet letters.
I taught 1st Grade for five years and one each of 4th and 5th. I taught all three of my children to read using this method and all consistently scored in the upper 90th percentile on reading tests and also challenged themselves with the books they read. I've tutored many children who learned to read very effectively. The phonograms and spelling rules I use are not taught in most schools and children who learn this way have a decided advantage over those who don't.
I will provide: * Phonogram flashcard file for printing * Sound files for use with electronic flashcard applications if desired * Checklist of weekly activities * A tracking file used to monitor learning
Parents will be provided with resources for download and will be expected to utilize the checklist provided as a guide to fully take advantage of the resources. This will result in the greatest growth for their children.
