Description
Class Experience
The students will learn the valuable skill of visualizing text while reading. Research has shown that students who visualize a story while reading are better able to comprehend and retell the story. This will be done through teacher modeling and direct instruction of key words, teaching the students to utilize their five senses. After the teacher does a think-aloud, the students will have a chance to draw the movie taking place in their heads as the teacher reads.
In addition to being a Special Education Reading teacher for over 15 years, I had the privilege of working at a local Lindamood-Bell facility throughout graduate school. I used both the Seeing Stars and Visualizing and Verbalizing research based programs during that time and later in my own classroom. I have seen the benefits first hand and would love to share them with you and your child!
1 file available upon enrollment- A one-page handout for use during the class visualizing activity (provided by the teacher) -crayons or colored pencils for use during the class activity -A one-page poster outlining key concepts (for use after class)
