"Kit Kittredge - An American Girl" is set during the Great Depression and follows a community's struggles to survive the crisis. Kit is an ambitious and caring young girl who provides a positive role model. This class is the third in a series featuring your student's favorite American Girl characters! In the first session of this course, students will learn about the causes of the Great Depression and what life was like during that period of time. Between classes, they will watch the Kit film and complete a learning guide for homework. In the second session, we will have a Socratic discussion about the film and review the student's work. If you are interested in this class, but your child is unable to attend a live class, you may register for any section and will receive a recording of the live class and the class materials after the section you registered for is over. Please let me know ahead of time if you register, but your child will not be in attendance. Meeting One: WWI The Roaring Twenties The Great Depression Homework between classes: Watch "Kit Kittredge: An American Girl" and complete learning guide assignments Meeting Two: Socratic discussion over film Review of learning guide activities This class is most appropriate for mature students, age eight and up.

Teacher expertise and credentials
When I was a kid, I hated history! I thought that it was the most boring part of my school day. It wasn't until my interest in science led me to study anthropology as an undergraduate that I realized I was also studying history - and that it was awesome! My education in social work stimulated interest in how modern history impacts social justice. As a teacher of history, it is important to me to educate students about the ways in which our past informs the present and future.
