Beginner Level
Each class begins with a captivating short video featuring two Native Spanish speakers from Mexico. They discuss the topic of the week while speaking slowly and clearly to ensure learners comprehend every word. Learning organically through conversations helps learners develop a natural understanding of the language. After watching the video in the first class of the week, we dive into a trivia-style game. Learners guess the meaning of key lines from the conversation, encouraging active listening and reinforcing comprehension skills. Next, the teacher introduces the target vocabulary, and learners have the opportunity to repeat the words aloud. This repetition aids in vocabulary retention and pronunciation. To support learners' ongoing practice, resources such as a vocabulary list, the video, trivia, worksheet or activity, and transcript are posted in the classroom after the first class of the week. The vocabulary list includes the theme words along with additional words and phrases to support learning more parts of speech such as verbs. This ensures that learners have ample resources for continued practice outside of class. On the second class of the week learners will review the video again, the vocabulary, and then the highlight of the classes is the range of interactive games that make the language come alive, fostering a deep understanding and love for Spanish. During these games, learners will select the correct translations of the week's theme words. After class, four engaging solo game assignments are posted for continued practice of the vocabulary to help with retention of the words. Each week presents a new video and a fresh set of words to learn. While vocabulary doesn't build upon previous weeks, repetition of certain words offers valuable reinforcement for students who attend regularly. With a different video and exciting topic covered each week for a full year, learners will experience a diverse and engaging language journey. Active participation is expected during class, with learners answering questions and fully immersing themselves in the language experience. This class is also listed as a self-paced class.
