What's included
2 live meetings
1 hrs 40 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
This class will consist of lecture and example problems. Students will have the opportunity (and are fully encouraged) to ask questions and to work through problems together. On the first day, we will cover arithmetic sequences and series. On the second day, we will cover geometric sequences and series. Students will learn about general formulas used and will have the opportunity to apply them to in-class exercises. I have created a worksheet for students so they will have a series of examples and places to write notes down from class. They have extra problems that can be done after class for extra practice, and any exercises we do not get to in class, will be homework.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the explicit and recursive definitions for arithmetic and geometric sequences. Thus, students will learn how to identify the common difference between a sequence of numbers, the initial value and how calculate further terms based on the information given. They will also learn about sums and the corresponding series equations. This means they will be able to calculate the sum of a sequence of numbers given the number of terms.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Sequences and series are generally taught in algebra 2 or precaculus, so students should either be enrolled in these classes, or have a firm understanding of algebraic concepts.
Supply List
A handout will be provided, printing this will be helpful for students as they work through the problems. Students will also need a calculator (phone calculators are acceptable).
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi all! I will be predominantly be teaching math courses. I have been tutoring my peers in math since I was young, so I have experience tutoring people of 8-20. I have my bachelor's degree from Tulane University in mathematics and psychology. I believe that all students have the capability to learn math, and that all students deserve to have a math teacher who thoroughly enjoys the subject they are teaching. I am excited and passionate about math, and I will do my best to share that with my students! Next to math, psychology research is one of my favorite things to do and I intend go to graduate school for it!
