US Grade 4 - 7
Each live meeting of this 8-week course will focus on one of the 8 parts of speech used in the English language. Every class will begin with a basic overview of the part of speech being covered and then move on to specifics. Interspersed throughout each lesson, students will engage in a variety of word games designed to support learning and give them additional practice using the part of speech being covered. Review games will also take place every few lessons to put all of the information together and to make sure it is solidly learned. There is no prerequisite for this course. It is designed so that students with little or no background knowledge can learn alongside students who have more experience with the grammar concepts being covered. Each lesson will introduce or review the basics, but will then quickly move on to more in depth study. Each week, students will play a number of different games to practice their skills. Some examples are a categories game to identify nouns, charades for identifying action verbs, a timed challenge to identify different types of adjectives, a silly sentences game to practice interjections, and many more. Each session will feature at least 3 grammar games to support the lesson. Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, I'm Teacher Tricia, and I'm so happy to be here on Outschool with you. I teach classes in a variety of subjects including language arts, literature, history, and life skills. As a homeschool mom of two kiddos, I have experience teaching in many different subjects and with ages ranging from early elementary through middle school. I also currently teach at a local co-op where classes are held on a once a week basis in a format very similar to that of Outschool except that I am actually in the same room as my students. In addition I attended Purdue University with a major in Elementary education and received plenty of classroom experience during my time there. I believe education should be a life-long endeavor, and I strive to learn something new everyday. It is my firm belief that when information is given in a fun and interesting way, students are much more likely to find the learning process enjoyable and to remember their classes and the subjects taught far into the future. I also ensure that each of my classes meets the needs of learners of all types. By presenting materials in many different ways and formats, I hope to be able to connect with each and every learner. I am always available if you have questions. I look forward to teaching and learning with you.
