In minecraft, there's so many different things to do. From exploring the expanse landscapes, to spelunking into the depths of caves, to just fishing in a boat. In every aspect of the game, however, students can learn a bit about themselves. This is a safe and fun self-discovery class. This however, is not a therapy class. It is purely a class for students to learn about their personality through gameplay and class interaction. This class will be learner driven, but I will help students achieve in game goals. Some activites in class wil be dircted to their technical skills through redstone, or efficient farming. Some activities will challenge their paticence, such as fishing or trying to get a rare drop from a certain creature. The class will look like this- Week 1: fishing. MInecraft has an extensive loot table when it comes to fishing, you can fish up different kinds of fish. If you're lucky, you may fish up an enchanted book to help you make your everyday tools to a better use. Or, if you're unlucky, you might fish up bad treasure, such as old leather boots or a wooden bowl. This class would focus on learner patience, to see how long they can stay at one task determined to get that fancy treasure. Week 2: farming. When it comes to food, Minecraft has a multitude of ways to get it. One way is to farm, but anyone can farm. This class will focus on learner's in game knowledge. How can you plant watermelons and pumpkins in the most effective way to save space and not damage your crops? How large can you make a farm from just 4 water sources? Week 3: redstone. Anything can be automated in Minecraft now, I will demonstrate a simple automated machine to make daily minecraft life a bit easier. Then, I'll ask students to remake the said machine. This class would focus on learners technicallity skills. Redstone is very complicated, but with a little help it can become super easy. The class will be taught through a realm, a private server where the host has control over who is able to join or not. This realm is totally safe, and you do NOT need a realm subscription to participate in class. You will need Minecraft Bedrock Edition though, which is the most readily available version of Minecraft. Minecraft is a game for everyone, and this class will be beginner friendly as well. I've been playing minecraft for nearly 10 years now, and with how far the game has come it's incredible how there's still so many people comming to it. I hope to see you or your learners in class soon! Again this is not a therapy class, just a passive way to help your learner learn more about their skills that can be used in other classes through gameplay and class interaction with other students and myself.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
To access Minecraft realms, your student will need an account that belongs to someone 13 or older due to Mojang's policy. This account can be a parent's, as I understand a lot of new players are kids younger than 13. The account just must be registered as 13 years old or older.
Gamertags must be sent to me through a private message, and not through the classroom page or to everyone during a meeting.
Supply List
This class requires Minecraft Bedrock Edition. It is available on nearly any platform, including phones, tablets, Nintendo switch, Xbox, Playstation, and PC. If on PC, when in the title menu, the word "Minecraft" must have no lettering underneath it to be compatible with this class. If there is "Java edition" underneath, that is the wrong version for this class.
External Resources
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Not an official Minecraft product. Not approved or associated with Mojang.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there everyone!
My name is Jared Jordan, and I love to have fun in my classes! I offer a ton of different Pokemon clubs, each one has a different personality. I teach learners from a wide age range, so any one is welcome! Pokemon has been a huge part of my life, as it's been in nearly every moment since the Pokemon games Black and White. I love talking about Pokemon and I love to hear other students thoughts on the franchise. I love shiny hunting and I always passionately help other students learn how to properly shiny hunt to help them get their favorites.
In addition to Pokemon, I also love playing Minecraft. I've seen students grow confidence in themselves from just improving their Minecraft skills. In addition to watching students grow into a better version of themselves, Minecraft is just a fun game to play with friends.
I aspire to be a fun, nice teacher to be around. I'm a huge nerd and I always want my students to feel comfortable with sharing a topic they are passionate about. I hope I can help your student create unique friendships in my classes soon!
