Class Experience

Please message me if you don't see an available time opening. I have multiple openings in the morning. If your child is homeschooled, feel free to contact me and request a longer duration of class time. Please read the description before enrolling your child. This is a beginner class, it is for children who haven't learned pinyin or have exposure to reading and conversation. This means that your child is a beginner at all levels in Mandarin; listening, reading, writing, speaking, and translating. The class is (30% Mandarin, and 70% English). If your child is planning on learning Mandarin in the long run, I would recommend taking it at least twice a week class. This class is not designed for children who simply want to converse in Mandarin or for children who have strong Mandarin listening skills but not speaking or writing because this would require a very individualized curriculum. Unfortunately, I don't have a class like that available at the moment. If you are uncertain about your child's Mandarin level, feel free to enroll your child in this class as finding the right class for the child sometimes is not easy, if you are unsatisfied in any way after the first class or simply find that it isn't the right fit, you may ask for a refund before disenrolling. Since this is an ongoing weekly class, you may withdraw any week.

-If your child will be going on vacation during the holidays please message me for cancellation ahead of time for a refund. Otherwise, I will assume your child will be coming to class. There are students from different countries, and holidays differ for each individual. Please send me a message for cancellation a week before class to avoid a notification sent automatically by Outschool for missing a class. I have never taken holiday breaks or breaks in general when teaching here. The only chance that it might happen is when there is an emergency and I will try my best to let you know a week ahead of time as well. If your child missed the class on the very first day, I can offer a make-up class. But please note that I don't offer any other make-up classes.
-*For 1-on-1 classes, families may receive a full refund until 48 hours before each class, or within 24 hours of purchase for the initial class purchase only. https://support.outschool.com/en/articles/16379-outschool-s-happiness-guarantee-and-refunds

Teacher expertise and credentials
California Teaching Certificate
I am a native Chinese, certified teacher, studied English as my second language. I specialize in teaching students who are beginning to learn mandarin. I have 10 years of teaching experience. 8 years in the school setting and 2 years in an online setting. I have a BA in Child and Adolescent Development with a minor in Music as well as a Montessori credential.

My values or philosophy behind my teaching: my focus is on the “whole child,” which means that my lesson plans will focus on stimulating the child physically, cognitively, socially, and emotionally. As an educator, my lessons will have many interesting subjects that will keep the children engaged. I prefer the use of guidebooks, hands-on tools, and activities to help me teach Mandarin/English in a fun and productive way.

Passion: my passion has always been learning. In my spare time, I love playing the guitar, collecting children’s books, and making use of the time to learn, plan lessons, and take classes. I think learning is exciting and I want to make learning fun for the children as well.
