Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Beginner Level
Please don't enroll to any of the openings on this listing unless you are already enrolled previously. I am fully booked this semester. This is a Chinese beginner class, it is designed for children who had no exposure to Mandarin in the past. The class is designed to build a solid foundation to help children gain confidence and their ability to read, write, and converse in Mandarin. This means that your child is a beginner at all levels in Mandarin; listening, reading, writing, speaking, and translating. The class is (30% Mandarin, and 70% English). I have designed a very structured curriculum, applying the Montessori teaching method to my curriculum. It is fun and challenging, looking forward to helping your child gain the confidence to excel in learning mandarin in the long run!

The class is not designed for children who previously have a Mandarin background (more than a year) because this would be a different class (intermediate/advanced). This is also not a homework tutoring class.

If you are uncertain about your child's Mandarin level, feel free to enroll your child in this class as finding the right class for the child sometimes is not easy, if you are unsatisfied in any way after the first class or found that it isn't the right fit, you may ask for a refund before disenrolling. Since this is an ongoing weekly class, you may withdraw any week.

-If your child will be going on vacation during the holidays please message me for cancellation ahead of time for a refund. Otherwise, I will assume your child will be coming to class because there are students from different countries, and holidays differ for each individual. If your child missed the class on the very first day, I can offer a make-up class. Please make sure your notification is on in case your child needs a reminder, Outschool sends reminders to students a few times before and after class starts. Please note that I will be in class during the full length of the student's class time, if the child is late to class, I will be there waiting. If the child misses the full length of class without prior notice, no make-up classes will be offered.

Following the curriculum I have set up, Each week we will go over one of these topics
For younger and older children, the lessons will be different.
For older children (8+), there will be more note-taking, fewer games, and crafts, please see the supply list to obtain a Chinese Notebook to use for class, thank you

Teacher expertise and credentials
California Teaching Certificate
I am a native Chinese, certified teacher, studied English as my second language. I specialize in teaching students who are beginning to learn mandarin. I have 10 years of teaching experience. 8 years in the school setting and 2 years in an online setting. I have a BA in Child and Adolescent Development with a minor in Music as well as a Montessori credential.

My values or philosophy behind my teaching: my focus is on the “whole child,” which means that my lesson plans will focus on stimulating the child physically, cognitively, socially, and emotionally. As an educator, my lessons will have many interesting subjects that will keep the children engaged. I prefer the use of guidebooks, hands-on tools, and activities to help me teach Mandarin/English in a fun and productive way.

Passion: my passion has always been learning. In my spare time, I love playing the guitar, collecting children’s books, and making use of the time to learn, plan lessons, and take classes. I think learning is exciting and I want to make learning fun for the children as well.
