Class Experience

In this course, we will learn the basics of proportions, and how to simplify the skeleton. You will learn the draw the skeleton and learn where all the muscles attach, which is key to drawing figures from imagination. You will learn a simplified muscle map, simplified mannequin and more.
Regardless of whether you are going to be a sculptor, a painter, an animator, or sculpting 3D models digitally, there is a set of human anatomy principles that are relevant for every kind of visual artist.
Students will even learn how muscles change when in different poses. They will also learn where fat builds up, and all the different body types. This is the last and only anatomy for figure drawing you will ever need.
When we become fluent in the language of anatomy, we also learn to think fluently about anatomy and creating.
When drawing a human figure, it's not enough to just know and understand the human anatomy, it is equally important to know how to shape the surface forms of the muscles.
Body muscle and fat can vary dramatically from person to person, but a bodybuilder and a couch potato can have almost identical skeletons. That is why the skeleton is a very reliable reference point and can help with understanding body proportions.
