Class Experience

US Grade 2
Intermediate Level
Welcome to Little Learners Loving Literacy! This online second grade comprehensive literacy class is designed to strengthen and expand students’ reading and writing skills while building confidence and independence in literacy. This program focuses on advanced phonics, spelling patterns, sight words, reading fluency and comprehension, writing development, and grammar concepts, providing a well-rounded approach to literacy learning.

In phonics, students will master complex word patterns, such as diphthongs, advanced vowel teams, and words with prefixes and suffixes. Spelling instruction will emphasize word families, syllable types, and commonly misspelled words, helping students apply these patterns in both their reading and writing. Sight word practice will focus on expanding automatic recognition of higher-level words to increase fluency.

Reading instruction emphasizes fluency, accuracy, and comprehension strategies. Students will engage with a variety of text types, including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and informational texts. They will learn to identify themes, analyze characters, determine the main idea, and summarize key details, fostering critical thinking and deeper understanding.

Writing lessons will guide students in planning, drafting, revising, and editing their work. They will write narratives with clear storylines, opinion pieces with reasons and evidence, and informational texts with organized details. Grammar instruction will cover sentence types, parts of speech (including adverbs and conjunctions), and more advanced punctuation, such as commas in a series and apostrophes in possessives and contractions.

This engaging online class features interactive activities, games, and digital tools to make learning enjoyable. Small group sessions and personalized feedback ensure that each child receives targeted support tailored to their individual needs. By the end of the class, students will have advanced their literacy skills, gained confidence, and developed a lifelong love for reading and writing!
