Learn With Ms. Price: Learn to Write Interesting, Descriptive Sentences!
What's included
1 live meeting
25 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
US Grade 1 - 2
Once your young learner has mastered writing simple sentences, they are ready to start adding some creativity to their writing! In this weekly, on-going class, learners will be taught how to take a very basic sentence like "I saw a dog" and transform it to something much more interesting and descriptive like, "I saw a brown, fluffy dog running down the sidewalk." The class will follow the "I do, We do, You do" method of instruction. Each class will start with Ms. Price modeling taking a simple sentence and then changing it to a more interesting sentence using descriptive language! (This will be visually modeled using a document camera.) Then, Ms. Price will show another simple sentence and ask for the learners' input into how to make it more interesting and descriptive, modeling how to write this new sentence. Finally, Ms. Price will give learners a simple sentence and ask them to add supporting details to make it more interesting! Learners will write their one, original sentence in their writing journal. Each week will have a fun, engaging topic to make learning this new skill fun! We'll write about unicorns and dragons, dogs and cats, sports and hobbies, and more fun topics! While the main focus will be writing descriptive sentences, we will talk about proper punctuation as it relates to what we are writing, including commas, periods, and exclamation points. 📝 EXPERIENCE NEEDED 📝 Learners must be able to independently write a complete sentence to be successful in this class. We will *not* be covering the basics of what makes a complete sentence. Rather, the expectation is that each learner is coming to the class able to write a short, simple sentence, and we will expand upon that knowledge. If your learner has difficulty writing independently, you are welcome to join (off camera, per Outschool policy) to assist them! ⭐️ PLEASE NOTE: This is an on-going class, designed so that learners can pop in and out at any time. There is no "beginning" or "end" to this class. Learners may join at any time, and stay as long as is helpful for them to master the concepts taught in this class. For some learners, just a few weeks may be all they need to take their writing to the next level. For others, the consistent writing practice, over the course of several months, serves them well. I make sure that each learner feels welcomed in my classes, whether they are brand new or have been with me for months! SCHEDULING: You are welcome to reach out with a schedule request! In order to start a new section, I do require a minimum of three learners, so I take into account how many requests I have for a particular day and/or time when deciding where to add new sections. If none of the current LIVE sections work for you, you might consider my flexible schedule version of this class. This format includes pre-recorded lessons, that you can watch at your convenience, but your learner is still able to ask me questions and get feedback on their writing directly from me! Take a peek here: https://bit.ly/DescriptiveSentencesFLEX . . . 📚 CLASS POLICIES 📚 MUTING: I love a highly interactive class, and I do not require students to be muted in my classes. That said, if there is a lot of background noise going on in a home, I will quietly mute that learner's camera so that other learners are not distracted by the noise. The learner is always welcome to unmute to ask questions or share! If you are attending the class with your learner to assist them with their writing, please be conscientious of muting your learner's device when you are interacting with them to avoid distractions. Thank you! CLASS RECORDING POLICY: When you pay for one of my classes, you are paying for the LIVE class, just like if this were an in-person class! I do not share recordings of my group classes in order to protect the privacy of all learners. However, you are welcome to reach out if you have specific questions about something covered in class! You are also 100% welcome to attend this class with your child (off screen, per Outschool Policy) so that you are seeing and hearing the same content. If you feel your learner would benefit from a class with recorded lessons, please check out the FLEX version of this class here: https://bit.ly/DescriptiveSentencesFLEX REFUND POLICY: This is a weekly, on-going class. Your weekly payment reserves a spot just for your child! Just like with in-person classes or extra-curricular events, refunds are not given when your child misses class. If you will be gone for an extended period of time, you may un-enroll your learner to open up their spot for another child.
