Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
This class is an introduction to essay writing, taught by a certified teacher with a Bachelor of Arts in English!

This class is designed for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade learners who have never written an essay. We will cover the basics, including brainstorming a topic, outlining an essay, developing a strong thesis statement, transition sentences, and more. Knowing how to write a solid paragraph is an absolute must before enrolling in this class.*

Week 1: Introducing the 5-Paragraph Essay + Picking a Topic + Outlining an Essay
Week 2: Developing a Strong Thesis Statement + Hooking the Reader with a Strong Introduction + Detailed Outline
Week 3: Body Paragraphs + Transition Sentences + Conclusion + Editing Process
Week 4: Learner Reflections on Editing Process + Sharing of Completed Essays!

*PREREQUISITE: The ability to independently write a well organized paragraph is a pre-requisite for this class. If your learner cannot yet independently write a complete paragraph that contains a topic sentence, 2-4 supporting sentences, and conclusion sentence, please enroll them in this class first: https://bit.ly/ProperParagraph

FEEDBACK: The price of this class includes personalized, written feedback for learners who submit their work after each live class session. There will be specific homework assigned after classes one, two, and three. All homework will be due 48 hours prior to the next class. This allows Ms. Price time to review submissions and return them with feedback prior to the next class! Submitting work for review is optional, but those who do so will get the most out of the class!

SHARING: Learners may share verbally or via chat in this class. I want all learners to be comfortable in sharing their ideas and asking questions in the way that feels best for them! For our final class day, I highly encourage learners to read their own essay to the class, as this builds confidence and public speaking skills in a safe, small-group environment. However, if a learner is not comfortable reading their essay out loud, I will gladly read it for them if they submit it ahead of time.

📚 CLASS POLICIES 📚

MUTING: I love a highly interactive class, and I do not require students to be muted in my classes. That said, if there is a lot of background noise going on in a home, I will quietly mute that learner's camera so that other learners are not distracted by the noise. The learner is always welcome to unmute to ask questions or share!

REFUND POLICY: This class follows Outschool's Limited Refund Policy. A full refund will be provided up until one week before the start of class. After that time, no refund will be issued, as your reservation has held a spot that another learner could have reserved.

CLASS RECORDING POLICY: When you pay for one of my classes, you are paying for the LIVE class, just like if this were an in-person class! Because learner safety is my highest priority, I do not share recordings of my group classes (many parents do not feel comfortable with other families having access to videos that include their child). As this is a multi-day class, please make every effort for your learner to attend each week of the four weeks for which they are registered so they are able to get the most out of the class!
