COURSE SUMMARY Each week students will learn about Japan locations that inspired the creation of their favorite Pokemon locations in the Kanto region. Students will get to learn about Japan through the lens of Pokemon. Students will see a comparison of game vs real life when reading/listening to descriptions about them, viewing pictures side-by-side, and watching video clips in this lecture-style course. If lecture-style courses are not what you are looking for than this is not the class for...
By the end of the course, students should be able to: Identify multiple cities and locations in Japan. Able to recall facts about those cities/locations. Maybe even learn some new Pokemon facts.
Being a world traveler, Japan is one of the many beautiful countries that I have been lucky enough to have visited multiple times. I have done extensive research of Japan as I was going to live there while teaching ESL in local schools. Covid-19 kept me from doing that for now, but I have studied for many years about the culture as it was going to be my new home and have witnessed the culture first hand in my many trips to the country. As far as Pokémon, I grew up playing all the games, especially Generation 1 which is the subject matter of this class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
