In this two part class, you will learn the letters in the Hebrew alphabet, the sounds of the letters, and how to write the Hebrew alphabet in both block and cursive writing. There are also 5 vowels you will learn, these vowels change the sounds the letters make. The first session we will look at the Hebrew alphabet letter by letter, learn the names of the letters and the sounds they make. We will also look at the vowels and how they change the sounds of the letters. The second session we will begin writing the letters in both block and cursive writing, with and without vowels. Through this learning process, you will begin to read easy Hebrew text and write your name in Hebrew. This class is not about learning how to speak Hebrew, it is an immersion class into the Hebrew alphabet and written language. Worksheets will be attached to the class with the letters and vowels so you may continue to study after the sessions are finished. Writing during the class is highly encouraged. Session 1: Welcome and introduction. Watch a PowerPoint of the written Hebrew alphabet in both block and cursive. While we go through the PowerPoint, you will learn the sounds the letters make on their own. We will move on to look at the 5 vowels in the Hebrew alphabet, what sounds they make and how they can change the letters. This session is about immerging in the sight of the letters and the sounds they make. Session 2: In the next session, you will learn how to write the letters of the Hebrew alphabet, both in block and cursive. You will also learn some of the history of the formation of the letters. After practicing the writing on your own, we will move on to form words using the sounds we learned in Session 1 and the letters formation in Session 2. You will learn to write your name in Hebrew and some simple Hebrew words (ken - yes, lo - no, shalom, yisrael, etc.).
