Students will learn to write a five paragraph essay. We'll review basic paragraph construction and cover the components of an essay, including: - the hook - the thesis statement - evidential support - clear transitions - a conclusion that shows why your information matters During class, we will: - introduce/review essay components - read and analyze a model essay - discuss our class rubric for evaluating the essays (and how these can be used as a writing guide) - select a prompt from those I provide (or students can propose their own ideas) If time remains, we will: - fill out our essay outlines and begin crafting paragraphs Following class: - students will complete their essay rough drafts by the following day. (the day after our live class date) (please send me a message to let me know you're finished) - I'll provide written feedback on each essay submitted on time. After receiving my feedback, students are encouraged to: - revise their essays and submit them again. (Send me a message to alert me, please!) - I will then provide my final evaluation of the work based on our class rubric. ** Students essays are due the day after our live class session. (Any time that day up to midnight) *** I prefer that completed essays be shared with me in the Outschool classroom via GoogleDocs, since this allows for collaboration and easy feedback, but we can make other formats work as well.
