We will learn about music history and the evolution of music. Students will learn about breathing exercises and vocal warm-ups. Students will learn about notes, rhythm, pitch, dynamics, and parts of a song. They will then put the parts of a song together to create a final masterpiece sung individually, if comfortable, or as a whole class.
I love to sing and have been singing for over 14 years. I have trained in classical music and opera and have a Master of Arts degree in teaching, as well as a Multiple Subject Credential from the University of California, Irvine. I have taught children, ages Kindergarten -8th grade, and enjoy finding fun ways to help students learn!
Week 1: Practice vocal exercises and choose from a list of teacher-approved songs to sing for our final week. Note: If you want to do another song not on the list, please message teacher for approval. Week 2: Practice vocal exercises and breathing exercises. Practice the verse of your performance song. Week 3: Practice vocal exercise and breathing exercises. Practice the chorus of your final song and put the verse and chorus together of the song. Get ready for our performance in Week 4!
1 file available upon enrollmentA one-page document will be provided at the beginning of the class with teacher-approved songs. A computer to look up the songs that are listed on the teacher-approved songs sheet will be helpful. YouTube would be helpful to play songs for free with parental guidance, if a student chooses to sing their own individual teacher-approved song.
We will be singing more and more of the song each week, so learner is assessed by teacher listening to them sing. They are assessed to see if they are grasping the concepts of pitch, breath, and dynamics.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
We will be singing modern songs, which will be evaluated for age appropriate lyrics. Some songs about love may be included in this course.
