Students will learn: - How to navigate in 3D virtual space within the 3D software - How to create and transform 3D polygonal primitives - How to edit the faces, edges and vertices of 3D polygonal shapes - Different view modes in Maya (low-poly view, smooth mesh preview) - How to use the extrude, insert edge loop and smooth tools - How to correctly save files in Maya (creating a project, setting a project, file location) - Design considerations: form follows function; meaning and narrative purpose of objects

We've been offering STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) classes and creating educational materials for students of all ages for over 15 years. We're excited to share this course content with more students through Outschool.
Before class, please download and install the Maya software. It can be downloaded for free educational use by students ages 13 and above, associated with an education institution, at this link: https://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/maya Please download Maya version 2019. In addition, the Maya software requires a 3-button mouse. Please ensure the student has a 3-button mouse to use with the software (with left-click, middle-click and right-click). It is okay for the middle-click button to also be a zoom/scroll button. Any inexpensive 3-button mouse will do (they generally cost about $20-25). Note: A 2-button mouse or a touch pad will not function properly with the Maya software.
