This is a learn to read class utilizing the UFLI curriculum based on the research of the Science of Reading. I will administer a phonics assessment during the first class to determine the starting instructional level for each student.

Class experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Students will learn basic phonemic awareness skills such as identifying and manipulating the sounds in words and progress to developing phonics skills by making connections of the sounds to letters in words. They will use these skills to develop blending and decoding skills that lead them to be a fluent reader that is proficient in reading grade appropriate material with a mastery of understanding what they read (comprehension) which is the ultimate goal of learning to read.
I am a licensed Elementary teacher with 15 years of classroom experience. I have taught 1st grade, 2nd grade and Title I (remediation for struggling learners in grades K-5). I have tutored struggling readers for 10 years. I have completed a 30-hour online training class and received my certification from the Orton Gillingham Basic Language Course.
Homework Offered
Additional practice pages that support the skills taught along with a Home Support guide will be uploaded each week. This will not be graded or checked for correctness. These practice pages are not required but are highly encouraged.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
