Class Experience

Day 1:
Students will learn the letter sounds, starting with letters that are used most frequently.

Before class, download and print out one or two of the free printables here at https://www.walkingbytheway.com/blog/bob-books-printables-for-set-1-books-1-3/. Print pages for Set 1, Book 1 titled "Mat". You can choose whichever pages you want from this blog or from this page, https://thisreadingmama.com/free-bob-book-printables/ . If you don't know which printables to choose, ask me at the beginning of class, and I will recommend the ones I would prefer.

You could purchase set 1 of Bob Books online or see if they have them at the library. I will read from the book here, and it would be helpful if each child has one to read from, too.

We will read Bob Book 1 "Mat". Students will learn to identify letters M, A, N, T, S and O, and the sounds they make. I will read Bob Book 1 to them and let them try it, too.

We will do 1 or 2 worksheets.

I will read a story aloud and show the pictures. The story is "Dan the Taxi Man". It is a rhyming story that is interactive. I will read part of the page and the kids will make a "beep, beep" sound at my signal as we read through the story. It is a very fun reading experience.

Day 2:

Students will continue to practice the letters from last week and add the letters C and D.

Before class, you may want to find the free printables from Book 2, "Sam". Download and print out the pages that you want your child to do.

We will read together Bob Book 2, "Sam".

We will do one or two worksheets.

I will read a story aloud. The story is "Each Peach Pear Plum". It rhymes and features fairy tale characters and is delightful. We will start to memorize parts of it as I stop and let the children complete the sentence with the rhyming word that belongs.

Day 3:

We will add letters G, H, and R. Find the free printables for Bob Book 3, "Dot". Print out 2 or 3 of them.

We will read Bob Book 3 "Dot".

We will do 1 or 2 worksheets from the previous blog page that go with Book 3 "Dot".

I will read aloud "Pete the Cat: My Buttons". We will say the fun parts together!

Day 4:

We will add the letters B and E.

We will read Bob Book 4 "Mac".

We will do 1 or 2 worksheets from the previous blog page that go with Book 4 "Mac".

I will read aloud "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus". I will read it in an entertaining way.

Depending on the time we have, I may read more than one book aloud on any of these days. This is my favorite part!

I will give suggestions each time of YouTube videos to watch that are related to what we did each session.
Learning Goals
Students will work at their level to improve their reading. If they need to learn letter sounds, we will start there. If they can already read some words, I will support them in learning new words. I will help them with whatever skills they need.

I love to teach children to read! I never get tired of seeing children break the code and discover the key to learning independently. I enjoy reading stories to children and experiencing them right along with them. I delight in these activities, and I think it comes through when I'm "teaching" a class. I love spending time with children. All of these things add up to my ability to do a good job of teaching this class.
