I am a school and early literacy librarian turned reading specialist. In addition to my background in early literacy and all things reading, I have completed advanced training in linguistics and the science of reading, including training through the Reading Simplified Academy. I have almost 20 years of experience working with students of all ages in multiple settings, and now work mainly with younger students to introduce them to the world of reading or to remediate difficulties with reading, be it with phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, or comprehension.
Homework OfferedStudents will be given a short passage to re-read out loud at home with an adult. A new passage will be available after each class. I will also provide a document with tips to help adults provide feedback as students read aloud. This re-reading of text is what helps build automaticity and fluency in reading and will greatly help speed up a student’s reading progress.
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments OfferedStudents will be assessed throughout the class. Individualized feedback will be provided as needed.
