In this class, we will be learning the beginnings of decoding and creating words with short vowel sounds. These take the format of 3-letter CVC or consonant-vowel-consonant words, such as hen, hat, cut, sit, jog, get, not, pan, mop. We will also be learning sight words, which are words that are common but are not phonetic. With this combination, students will be able to start reading their first sentences. Students will learn to decode, read and build 3-letter CVC phonic words, learn to recognise simple sight words and read and create their first simple sentences.
Sophie, the owner of Great Lessons is a qualified Montessori teacher, and all of our teachers hold a recognised Montessori qualification and experience to teach children in this age group.
Each week learners will have access to an interactive Google Slides activity that they may choose to do outside of class.
2 files available upon enrollmentA pdf file will be provided in the class materials. It is recommended that this is printed, and where possible, laminated, for learners to use in class and at home. In addition, learners will need access to a laptop or similar in order to use the Google Slides activities.
The class teacher will observe and assess informally, and will let parents know when the child is ready to progress to the next level.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
This class uses Google Slides and a website called Montessori Tools to teach and practice building our words. Neither require a login to use.
