This 3-day course will focus on growing foundational reading skills by reading cvc and vc words, sight words, and word families. Students will also learn the importance of reading comprehension and fluency.

Description
Class Experience
At the end of this course, students will be able to: pronounce the sound of each letter with minimal to no help from the teacher. identify the parts of a book with minimal to no help from the teacher. read a story with cvc words and simple sight words with minimal to no help from the teacher. identify periods, exclamation marks, and question marks in the text with help from the teacher. answer comprehension questions with minimal help from the teacher. read cvc word families [-ap, -op, -it] with minimal help for the teacher.
I have a Master's Degree in Education, Multiple Subject Teacher's Credential, and a Literacy Specialist Credential. I have taught first grade, third grade, and, currently, fourth grade. Before I was in the classroom, I was a Reading Interventionist at an elementary school as well as a reading tutor for PreK - 12th grade.
Recommended: Students should write their sight words on an index and practice reading the words. (One word per index card.) Students should read (or be read to) for 15 minutes everyday. Optional: Students can reread the story from our lesson to build accuracy and fluency.
