#kindergartenreadiness #summerreading #ortongillingham Phonemic Awareness is the ability to hear and manipulate the sounds in spoken words and the understanding that spoken words and syllables are made up of sequences of speech sounds (Yopp, 1992; see References). The Lively Letters™ program addresses multiple targets, simultaneously training students in the critical skills of: • phonemic awareness • phonics • speech production This program provides students with embedded imagery; mouth, and and body cues; music; mnemonic stories. Orton-Gillingham Instruction ~ •Structured, Sequential, Cumulative, and Flexible •Language Based •Multi-Sensory •Reading, spelling, and writing instruction people with dyslexia and other learning disabilities, English Language Learners Each class will begin with oral/auditory warm-ups with a focus on listening for sounds in words, identifying sound placement, and similarities and differences between words. Learners will practice segmenting and blending sounds using arm movements, manipulatives, fingers. Learners will listen for and match rhyming words. Learners will also practice listening for syllables. Next, we will then learn the story and sound of a Lively Letter. The songs and movements help students remember sounds. Then using the Orton-Gillingham approach printing practice using tactile surfaces. As we learn new letter/sound combinations, letter placement within a word, we will practice encoding and decoding words. We will practice all skills throughout the course. The Alphabetic Principle will follow this scope and sequence: •Week 1, 2, 3, 4 We will begin with oral/auditory warm-ups with a focus on listening for sounds in words, identifying sound placement, and similarities and differences between words.
