This is a class for students who are ready to learn the skills to begin reading. This class can be useful for native English speakers who are ready to learn the alphabet or ESL students who would like to learn to read. All students should be comfortable taking class in English. STUDENT LEVEL In order to take this class, students must: -Be able to say the alphabet in English with 90% accuracy (singing or reciting) -Know some of the basic English letter sounds (it’s okay if they struggle or...
I have tutored students in reading for several years, and I also have my certification in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language).
Students will have videos, songs, and other extra activities. All activities are optional, but practice outside of class is necessary in order to prepare for the next level.
Week 1 Paper/Notebook Pen/Pencil Modeling dough or clay (some doughs may contain gluten) Week 2 Paper/Notebook Pen/Pencil Students will be asked to find something to share that starts with one of the letters of their name Week 3 Paper/Notebook Pen/Pencil 2 pieces of paper (white or colored) Scissors Black marker/pen/crayon 3 manipulatives (blocks, cards, etc.) Week 4 Paper/Notebook Pen/Pencil 2 pieces of paper Scissors Coloring medium Stapler (for grown-up use only) 3 manipulatives (blocks, cards, etc.) Week 5 Paper/Notebook Pen/Pencil Modeling dough or clay (some doughs may contain gluten) Week 6 Paper/Notebook Pen/Pencil 3 manipulatives (blocks, cards, etc.) Week 7 Paper/Notebook Pen/Pencil Access to www.kahoot.it OR the Kahoot app
Students will receive an informal evaluation at the end of the section based on in-class performance and any submitted homework.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
For learner safety, books will not be shared with students. We will read them through my screen. Some students may need help with scissors in Weeks 3 and 4. Grown-ups MUST handle the stapler for the books in Week 4. Students also need parental permission to use Kahoot in Week 7
