Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - 1
*Although this is an ongoing class, students are welcome to join or leave on any given week. The classes will repeat after the 13th class.* 

 In this course, students will be engaged for 30 minutes each week on how to sound out words 3 letter words using one vowel sound.  Students should have a basic understanding of letters and their corresponding sounds before taking these classes. The class will focus on a specific vowel sound each week. Students will practice the sound of the vowel sound.  Next, students will think of beginning and ending sounds to add to the vowel to change the word.  As we are creating, students are encouraged to write new words. They will also practice by playing interactive games and reading a book with some of the new words they are learning. 

 Week of Jul 17:-  Short a sound. The class will focus on the "short a sound" and include words such as can, bad, cat, etc.
Week of July 24:  Short e sound. The class will focus on the "short e sound" and include words such as bed, get, yes, etc.
Week of July 31 Short i sound. The class will focus on the "short i sound" and include words such as big, did, him, etc.
Week of Aug 7 Short o sound. The class will focus on the "short o sound" and include words such as box, dog, got, etc.
Week of Aug 14: Short u sound. The class will focus on the "short u sound" and include words such as fun, mum, but, etc.
Week of Aug 21: Long a with silent e sound. The class will focus on the "Long a with silent e" and include words such as cake, mate, fame, male, etc.
Week of Aug 28: Long i with silent e sound. The class will focus on the "Long i with silent e" and include words such as kite, bike, site, etc.
Week of Sept 11: Long o with silent e sound. . The class will focus on the "Long o with silent e" and include words such as mole, vote, woke, etc.
Week of Sept 18 Long u with silent e sound. The class will focus on the Long u with the silent e and include words such as mule, tube, dune, etc. 
Week of Sept 25 Long e: ea, ee sounds. The class will focus on the long e sound and include words such as hear, see, bee, seat, etc.
Week of Oct 9: Long a: ai, ay sounds. The class will focus on the long a sound and include words such as sail, mail, pay, way, etc. 
Week ofOct 23 June 18: Long i: igh: The class will focus on the long i sound and include words such as high, sigh,  etc. 
Week  Oct 30: Long u: oo: The class will focus on the long u sound and include words such as boot.

Each week students will accurately decode different 3 letter words with short vowel sounds.

Other Details

Supply List
Learners will need a  pencil and paper or a dry erase board and marker to practice writing words. Students will receive a printable worksheet to practice at home after class.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
