Class Experience
This is a continuation of the first "Learn to Play for Beginners Class." Continue your learning from where you left off in class 1! The focus will be on music reading and fluid performance. This is the FLEXIBLE schedule class where there are NO LIVE MEETINGS. Student interaction in class: Students will be asked to play ear training games within the classroom throughout the course in which they will be responding to each other in the class. Each week students are asked to post videos of their work on the pieces, when videos are posted we will treat this like a masterclass and I would ask you to comment on one thing you really liked about their playing and one way they could improve. It's important to listen to others perform and use it in your learning. Throughout the course students will also be given music history assignments to share favourite pieces and information about our composers. Students will learn: -to recognize the keys on the piano and their names. -finger numbers and how they relate to the position on the piano. -melodic contour -learning songs by rote and by reading -learn the value of practice and extension at home -basic rhythms and how to play and clap them -proper piano position and posture Students will receive a weekly video and assignment in place of a live class. Between classes students will have theory and performance assignments to complete and practice to ensure they are prepared for the next class. All students will require a keyboard or piano to practice at home. Regular daily practice will be required in order to improve as with any instrument instruction. In this level we begin to identify the pedal sign and learn how to properly use the pedal. It is recommended to have a pedal with your keyboard/piano. A pedal can be purchased and attached to most keyboards if you do not already have one. Please feel free to message the teacher for guidance on whether your keyboard is able to attach a pedal or for which pedal to purchase.
