The game of chess has earned itself a position of unique respect among board games. There is no prior knowledge required to take this class. I will teach the following topics in 2 meetings. 1st Meeting. The setup. The names of the pieces. The value of the pieces. Rules of the game. How the pieces move and capture other pieces. 2nd Meeting. Castling. Pawn promotion. Pawn En Passant. Review. 3rd Meeting. Stalemate. Check and Checkmate. I will teach using Power Point slides and using another camera showing my chessboard to show examples on how the pieces move, capture, check or do checkmate. I encourage students to have a chessboard game of their own, so they can move their pieces the way I will show them. I will ask questions to check for understanding. For instance, "what would you do if this piece moves to this square?" I will also answer the questions they might have. We will end the third meeting mostly showing different ways to make a checkmate.
