Welcome! This is a watercolor class for the very beginner. In this class, students will learn the foundations of painting with watercolors and how to apply them in practice. This is a Flexible Schedule class, so there are no live classes scheduled. If a section already has a student signed up, I encourage students to sign up for that section if it is convenient, as it is more fun for students to have classmates to communicate with. - The Color Wheel - Making a color - How to paint successfully The Fundamental Washes: - Flat washes - Graded wash - Variegated wash - Wet on wet - Painting around and in an object. - Detail - Finer watercolor painting skills - Creative techniques - Using salt - Using plastic wrap - Using coffee - Combining all the skills they have learned
Safety Note: Please note that this class suggests but does not require the use of a blow dryer. Required for all classes: - Round Watercolor Brushes (any variety pack) - Pan Watercolors, such as Crayola Watercolor Pans - Oval, Set of 8 Assorted Colors (any will do, just make sure you a min. of 8 colors; the primary and secondary colors are good to have, although technically only the primary are necessary) - Watercolor Palette (to place and mix colors in) - 9x12 Watercolor Paper Pad, such as Canson Series Watercolor Pad (fold-over cover), 9x12" (amount and pre-cut sizes indicated for each separate class below) - 1 Sheet Watercolor Paper or scraps (to use as a color tester) - Water - Paper towels or washable rag - Masking or painter’s tape - Pencil - Good eraser - Blowdryer In addition, the following supplies will be needed for each separate class: Class 1: - 2 Sheets Watercolor Paper, 9x12'' and 6x6'' (pre-cut) - Ruler - A quarter - Pen or marker Class 2: - 4 pre-cut watercolor paper strips size 3x9" (a 9x12" sheet splits evenly into 4) - Tube of white watercolor paint Class 3: - 3 pre-cut sheets of watercolor paper size 6x4 1/2" (a 9x12" sheet splits evenly into 2) - Ruler - Washi tape - Kosher salt Class 4: - 9x12" Watercolor paper - 1 cup of brewed coffee (the stronger the better) - Scissors - Cut-out of the earth (PDF) - I will send the PDF before the start of Week 4
