Description
Class Experience
Students will develop essential reading skills: sight word reading, phonics, fluency, spelling, and comprehension.
I have a bachelor's degree in English language and a masters degree in education with an emphasis in special education. I taught elementary-aged students (K-6th) for four years in the public schools. I have tutoring literacy privately for over a year. I am passionate about reading and writing and have a lots of experience helping students succeed in these areas.
I won't give any formal homework, but I would recommend students read at least 20 minutes a day. It doesn't have to be a book, but anything they find interesting.
Paper and pencil
I will conduct fluency and informal comprehension assessments throughout the class.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
We use the website getepic.com for our reading material.
