This could be used as a follow up course for ” Drum Like A Rock Star” Jr High Edition level 1. In this ongoing course, students will continue to learn basic beginning patterns. These patterns will consist of rock beats popular in today’s music. Along with these, there will also be a series of hand and foot combination patterns used to gain basic mobility around the drums. Not only are these fundamentals needed to perform a piece of music, but also aid in the overall development of the student’s confidence on the instrument. Basic hand technique, proper grip, and posture will all be explored as well. Students will receive PDFs with exercises and practice suggestions that will be addressed during class. Each week will present a new pattern both in song beat form, and exercise form, that the student is to practice on their own for the next meeting. Each meeting will begin with a presented warm up for the first 5 minutes. Upon completion we will move to the pattern(s) of the week. I will offer up a question and answer time during each class as well to ensure clarity of topic discussed. This class will be fun and educational! Students will be playing for each other while learning. Must have drums. Basic experience needed for this class, should already be able to read basic rhythms and drum notation.
Learning Goals
Students will learn posture and seating. Proper grip and technique. Basic drum beats and fills used in popular music and good practice habits

Supply List
Materials would include student’s own sticks and drum set. I ask that the students provide themselves a notebook to keep their PDFs in from our class as I may refer back to a previous exercise from time to time.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello and welcome! My name is Matt Gardner and I’ve been performing and teaching drums and percussion for over 2 decades now! I’ve performed in many different styles of venues for both drum set and percussion/marching percussion. I grew up in a musical family, went to school for music, and most importantly, have been helping students achieve their goals now as well. My teaching philosophy is simple, whether you are a beginner or advanced. I have a straight to the point approach with techniques, tips, ect, that are proven to work. I like to have fun when teaching any level, and I love it when my students accomplish their goals! Classes I will be teaching are drum set beginners, intermediate, and advanced which includes hand and foot exercises, groove and style studies, performing set up and tuning tips. Students will perform for each other. Other classes are, Rudimental and snare drum fundamentals for beginning band students. Basic music theory ( for drummers and non drummers.) Learning to count rhythms ( open to all drummers and non drummers alike.) Hand chop development for drum line. Developing moellar and push pull techniques. Check back often as I will be adding future classes and also will be taking requests!
