Welcome to “Learn to Draw with Mr. Paul,” a self-paced video art class designed for the imaginative and curious minds of elementary students! Over the course of five weeks, students will embark on a creative journey through five engaging video lessons, each unlocking new skills and techniques in the art of drawing. Mr. Paul will guide young artists through a variety of projects designed to nurture creativity and enhance drawing skills. Our lessons include: 1. Let's Draw Video Game Landscapes 2. Let's Draw Selfie Portraits 3. Let's Draw Comic Strips 4. Let's Go On An Outdoor Art Adventure 5. Let's Learn About Value Students will follow along with Mr. Paul as he introduces the concept of each lesson, sharing examples from art history for inspiration, and then demonstrating the project. Each video is roughly 10 minutes. Then students will be invited to try the concept out for themselves. There will be no live meeting for this class. Students can participate on their own schedule, and pause the videos as much as needed to learn at their own pace. Students are encouraged to share their artwork and join in discussions on the class page. Mr. Paul will provide feedback to everyone who shares their work. 1. Let’s Draw Video Game Landscapes
Learn about drawing video game landscapes with Mr. Paul! This 9 minute video will introduce the basic principles of perspective drawing in a kid-friendly way. Viewers will learn art words like foreground, middleground, background, vanishing point, and horizon line. We will make a simple drawing in one-point perspective, and then create our own video game landscape using everything we've learned! 2. Let’s Draw Selfie Portraits
Learn about drawing self-portraits with Mr. Paul! This 10 minute video will introduce the basic principles of drawing a human face in a kid-friendly way. Viewers will learn art words like self-portrait, symmetrical, and line of symmetry. We will practice drawing guidelines for the eyes, nose, and mouth in different positions. 3. Let’s Draw Comic Strips
Learn about drawing comic strips with Mr. Paul! This 10 minute video will introduce the basic principles of drawing a human face in a kid-friendly way. Viewers will learn comic art words like panel, beginning, middle, end, and punchline. We will start by designing our character(s) and thinking about their personality traits. Go on an outdoor art adventure with Mr. Paul! This 8 minute video will introduce the basic principles of sketching from nature in a kid-friendly way. We will learn about using our sketchbooks to quickly capture the interesting things we see in the world around us. Mr. Paul demonstrates how to break things down into simple shapes so that you can draw anything - even if it looks complicated at first! I've created illustrated cover art for over 400 novels and my paintings and have been shown in galleries around the world. I have taught extensively during that time, working with students of all ages in group and one-on-one settings, covering a range of subjects including drawing, painting, digital design, and more.
