They keep a sketchbook with their drawings in it to compare after the section weeks are finished.Class Experience
During this ongoing course, which is usually ongoing in the length of 4 to 6 sessions, the student will learn to draw different dragon heads and sometimes whole dragons. They will learn how to break the dragon's head down into simple shapes using an artist's grid. The student will also learn how texture and shape make a 2-D drawing look three dimensional. Foreshortening, line quality and gestural line will be discussed in each session. The student will learn shading techniques with colored pencil and then they will finish coloring their dragon head outside of class. Each successive class they will be able to share their finished drawings and they will get feedback from the instructor. My teaching style is hands-on and interactive. The students will draw along with me as I teach the techniques above. Some of the classes will show the students short clips on different dragons from mythology around the world, but most of the classes will be spent drawing. Each class within the four weeks will be taught in the same way but different dragon's heads will be drawn in different poses.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their hand-eye coordination, ability to see shapes to make up a drawing, and to analytically differentiate shape, line and volume.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from University of Oregon
Hello. My name is Josephine Archer. I live in Prescott Arizona. I have my Masters Degree in Art and Printmaking. I am also certified in Arizona Elementary Education. My love is teaching children, but I also like to teach adults. My favorite subjects to teach are Art, Math, Writing, Phonics and STEAM related courses with a Waldorf approach. I believe learning should be fun and creative. When learning is fun and creative, children are more apt to remember what they have been immersed in. I teach with games, drawing activities, and art related hands on activities. Plutarch said, "A mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled."
Children's minds are so creative. In my years of teaching I have noticed that children only need mentors who guide and inspire them. Through the inspiration and creativity, the student gains the motivation it takes to thrive within their own unique learning abilities. I am very excited to teach your children on Outschool.
I have classes that I teach at the local community college. They are credit Art courses and College for Kids courses. When I am not teaching at the college, painting murals, and teaching on Outschool I am homeschooling my thirteen and eleven year old children. I also have a 21 year old daughter who has graduated from college. My interests are: Art, Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Art and Creativity, Waldorf education, Math concepts, Natural Herbal Healing, Reiki, reading, hiking and running.
