Draw to draw faces: This course will teach semi-realistic portrait drawing fundamentals through weekly guides and tutorials. We will review drawing basic shapes and forms while understanding facial proportions through lines, shapes, tones, and texture. We will focus on different face areas that will lead them to draw a final independent portrait. All characters are original to help ease into the world of portrait art. Students are encouraged to follow along but can add their artistic voices to their characters. I intend to give your child a basic understanding of the principles of drawing to re-apply rules on their own. Semi-realism is not about looking at a photo and copying it. It is about taking your style and blending it into a unique face through a combination of anime or cartoon style and realistic reference traits. It's fun to experiment while finding your style. Each class has the opportunity to practice drawing while gaining the knowledge to find an individual voice for the student's final project. The course will begin with an introduction and discussion of the series or movie, followed by a "Draw With Me" format with step-by-step instructions. -Each student can follow along and choose to add their unique details to their characters. I ask for them to follow along on items that might be challenging, but the student can choose their path. -Each student will have opportunities and ask for help throughout the class. I will ask how everyone is doing every 5 to 10 minutes, and they can give me a thumbs up, thumbs down, and show their work. Students can also ask for help, whether out loud or through chat. I try my best, but for the sake of time and the other students, I may help after class or give guidance via email through Outschool. In this ongoing class, students can connect with their peers as we explore our excitement over anime art and how we can use each week to better our drawing styles. -Chat is always open and must follow the Outschool safety policy to remain on. About the class: -This class is best suited for those starting out or with little experience with drawing faces. -The class is a "draw with me format" and will be taught at a slower / medium pace. I would not recommend this class for advanced students. -Some classes will be in beginner's format while being introduced and challenged with intermediate drawing techniques -This class is for those open to the challenge of pushing themselves a little further. -I do not believe students should copy me exactly. If they follow along, they can create their unique fan art at their level. Creativity comes from guided freedom of space. -Chat is open for conversations about anime and life. However, it will be turned off if Outschool safety policies are not followed. The teacher reserves the right to stop or change the subject as seen fit or flow of the class. We will draw in a sketching format so expect to get messy and make mistakes! We will learn together and celebrate our victories! Some Things to Mention: There is no grade or judgment in the class. I ask that each student respect each other's time and input. The main objective is the draw until the timer is complete with compassion and without judgment. All levels are welcome, but some experience with drawing may help the experience in the classroom. This class is excellent for those who want to deepen their understanding of drawing and those who are homeschooled. I do ask that students are not late. Unfortunately, I cannot admit students more than 15 minutes late because it is a time-sensitive activity. For all classes' safety, I asked that all students who are not verified show their faces at the beginning of the course. Those who refuse will be placed in the waiting room or removed from the class. I appreciate your consideration in this course. I motivate my students to dive deep and enjoy the very process of creating art rather than simply focusing on the end product. My approach to teaching involves believing in the uniqueness of each child and seeking to connect with and draw out that aspect of theirs into their art.
