In this one time course, learn the basics of debate and participate in a mini debate tournament
Class experience
In the first 60 minutes, students will learn the format, rules, and strategies for debate. The course is structured for beginners who want to learn basic debate format and technique that can be applied to oral debates and persuasive essays. In the second 30 minutes, students will participate in a min-debate tournament competition live in the zoom meeting. Students will learn the basics of how to construct an affirmative and negative case, how to cross examine an opponent and how to answer cross examination questions, how to respond to an opponent in rebuttal, and how to write an effective "award winning" conclusion.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
