Class Experience

My keen interest in cooking began as a young child, and I have been an avid cook and baker my whole life.  I was taught classic techniques by my mother, and by the time I was a teenager, I was making everything from sponge cake to gourmet soups to homemade traditional candies and dinner for my large family.  As an adult I have continued my serious interest.  I am an accomplished home bread baker, I keep a sourdough start, and I make whole wheat breads almost every day.

My interest in nutrition also has a long history.  As a child, my mother introduced me to important concepts of nutrition, and as an adult I began intensive reading into nutrition in my early 20s (that was a few decades ago :)   and this interest became essential when I had to be involved with feeding therapy for a family member with significant medical issues.  I have also received training as I participated in the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program for eight years as a state-licensed daycare owner.  I was also required to hold a Food Handler's permit for this license. 
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
(1) Please note that heat is typically required to accomplish these recipes.  Parents need to use their own judgment in how much assistance they offer their child.  I do expect that children will have a supervising adult present in their house for assistance as needed, especially in case of an emergency. Parents are always welcome to be in the kitchen helping while their child is cooking. 
(2) The recipes I select may include allergens to some individuals, with the exception of tree nuts, which are allergens in my own household.  If there is any concern about allergens, please contact me, and I can try to help with finding substitutes if possible. But please always follow the advice of your personal physician.  
Ingredient/equipment lists will be provided the week prior to class, and full, detailed recipes will be provided by the teacher after class.
