Class Experience

This class is for students who have never coded on Scratch. No coding experience is needed to take this class.

My teaching for learning guarantee: After taking this class one time, students may retake this single- one time- class FREE as many times as they need in order to master the lesson.

This project based course is primarily focused on getting students interested in coding by learning to make the games and discovering the possibilities. Individual concepts such as loops, variables, and boolean blocks will be discussed in more detail in the higher levels in my series. This class is for the very beginners with zero experience with coding or Scratch.

*Students MUST have a computer or a device that has a keyboard for coding*

Lesson Plan:
Introduction to Scratch
5 minutes will be spent giving a short introduction to Scratch and how to create a Scratch account where students can save their work.
40 minutes will be spent learning how to create a fun game using step by step instructions.
The last 10 minutes will be spent addressing any questions that students may have and trouble shooting/debugging games.

*Parents: Younger kids will need some help setting up their computers at the start of class. Feel free to open an account on Scratch prior to class by going to:
scratch.mit.edu

Click on "Join Now" on the top right hand side to create an account.

Important Notes: 💻🤩😀
-Coders will need two devices when taking this class. One device will be used for coding on Scratch, while the other device will be used to watch the teacher on Zoom (via the Outschool website). The coding device must have a keyboard. Using one device for this class will be very difficult and frustrating for your learner, so please make sure tht two devices are set up before class.
-This program is best suited for kids 7 years and older. Younger kids will need SIGNIFICANT adult assistance as the coders are required to manage technical issues that may arise during the class.
-As per Outschool safety policy, and to ensure the safety of the students, all cameras must be on for the first 5 minutes of class.

Learning Goals

By the end of the this lesson, students will know how to use coding blocks to create an easy Doodle game on Scratch.
