In this three week class, students will gain an understanding of the stock market. We will learn about the history of the stock market from joint stock ventures to the Americas until present day. Students will learn what a bull and bear market is and how world events affect the market, making it go up or down. In the first week, students will learn how the stock market functions and will set up their account on Market Watch's website for the virtual stock market game. Students will compete...

I teach Civics and Economics and American History. I have a Master's degree in Political Science.
Students will keep a virtual portfolio on the Virtual Stock Market Exchange game on the Market Watch game. Time out of class is dependent on the student.

We will use historical websites such as Stanford History Education Group, Gilder Lehrman American History, the Federal Reserve Board and Market Watch.
