In this class learners will be taught how to read basic ukulele tablature. They will use that knowledge to learn the main theme from The Mario games, “Overworld Theme.” They will also work on proper finger placement when “fretting” the notes in order to ensure a beautiful sound while playing. We will review the string names, as well as vocabulary terms such as “fret” and “note vs. chord.” It is helpful if the students know these things before class, but not mandatory. This class can move kind of quickly, and there can be a lot of information to digest. I have had some students pick it up in 15 minutes, and others take the whole class time and still must complete some on their own. I I strive to make sure each learner is truly understanding the material and so they can use that knowledge to read other tabs in the future. I love seeing the looks of accomplishment on their faces when they get it and can play a really cool song!

Hello! My name is Laura and I love to teach! I currently have a bachelors degree in music with an emphasis in vocal performance. I also have a masters degree in music theory and did my thesis research over African American spirituals and early American hymnody. I am in my fourth years of teaching music, currently at Palmer Music Company in Arkansas.
I have also been a part of many theatrical productions as an actor, co-director and costume director.
I believe each and every student is unique and deserves a learning experience that reflects them as an individual. I am an organized person, but I can change it up on fly as well. No two classes will ever be the same, because no two students are the same. There will never be a dull moment in my class!
