Other Details
Parental Guidance
Scratch is a coding community that allows students to share their projects with other users. We will be reviewing digital citizenship/safety in class, but discussing this with your child is also advised.
I will be advising the students to keep their projects private unless they have permission from their parent/guardian to publish it.
Supply List
Create a (free) account on the Scratch website Laptop or desktop (Chromebooks and tablets are not compatible with Scratch 3.0) (Optional) Some students like to have a device that they are using for the zoom meeting so that they can work on Scratch on their computer without needing to switch back and forth
External Resources
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Meagan Khatthaname and I am an elementary teacher who is now teaching fourth grade. I am a former computer teacher who loves teaching Scratch coding and computer skills!
Beginner Scratch courses
I will be offering various Scratch courses for students to learn the basics of Scratch and how to make games and projects. Send me a question to ask about private classes, too!
Homeschool Computer classes
I offer private computer classes for students who are homeschooled or want to supplement their regular classes with computer/tech classes. I also have some group Google slides classes.
I received my Bachelor's in Elementary Education from UMKC in 2013
I taught in a brick and mortar public school for 6 years as a 4th-grade classroom teacher then a computer and STEM teacher.
I am TESOL certified (since 2015)
I taught ESL online for 3 years, but I'm now back into the classroom teaching 4th grade again!
When it comes to kids' learning, the sky is truly the limit. Too often I think kids are underestimated in just what they can accomplish. Giving children the opportunity to explore their talents and interests is such an important thing! As an educator, I have felt that exploring a child's strengths is the best way to help them succeed in life. Fostering a child's interests into lifelong skills not only helps them succeed but allows them to feel empowered and confident!
