What is paper quilling and when did it start? It is an art of crafting strips of paper into beautifully intricate designs. While the exact origins of paper quilling is not known, it has been around for quite some time- possibly for as long as paper has been around! Paper quilling was designated as a "suitable" pastime for women of aristocracy in the 18th century. Today it is an art form that is both visually appealing and fun! The designs are endless and it is a great stress reliever. For this 4 part class we will work together to design three different compositions. If all questions have been answered, than while we are working I encourage students to interact by means of would-you-rather questions or other topics of conversation. Class will be structured as follows: For our 1st class: We will learn the history of paper quilling, talk about what it is and ways it can be used to decorate greeting cards, shadow boxes, gifts and home ornaments. We will talk about the correct and incorrect ways to apply the glue to the designs. Then I will demonstrate a number of quilled designs while creating our first design which will be a beautiful floral design. For our 2nd class: We will briefly review prior class and work to create a whimsical cupcake. For our 3rd and 4th classes: We will work on an intricate and extraordinary peacock design or a design that students choose from online inspiration. Note: While it is not necessary to have prior experience with quilling to take this course, please be aware that paper quilling is an complex and sometimes tedious paper craft. While for many it is a fun activity please be aware that it is not going to be a good fit for those who struggle to hold and manipulate small strips of paper. Learners who are slightly younger or older than the stated age can contact me prior to signing up to ascertain whether it is a good fit for them. **Please look at and be prepared to start class with the supplies on the supply list below! The supplies will not be sent to the learner or given to them in any other manner once they sign up for class. Each family is responsible for a their own supplies.**

White Card Stock Assorted Paper (see cutting instructions below) Glue- liquid glue is recommended. It is best for learners to have a liquid glue that has a precision tip. Quilling tool In addition to the above, it will be helpful to have the following: Tweezers A smooth, plastic surface to spread your glue on and something to spread it with I highly recommend purchasing a quilling kit such as is sold by Amazon that includes a quilling tool and glue but it is not necessary. If you chose not to purchase a quilling kit please prepare your strips of paper ahead of class since there will not be time allotted in class for this activity. Cut 1/8” or ¼” wide strips of text weight paper (we recommend cutting lengthwise, so the strips are 11” long). Here are colors it might be good to have: 15 green strips (ideally, two tones of green, but one works too) 20 teal strips 10 yellow strips 20 white strips 30 peach/pink strips 10 black strips 10 brown strips 10 tan strips 10 red strips 30 blue strips You are welcome to improvise and use different colors! These are simply suggestions of color options.

Teacher expertise and credentials
"The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." --William Arthur Ward
Hello! My name is Tiffany and I strive to inspire young minds. I am passionate about young learners and want to inspire children to not only love what they are learning but also to apply the lessons to their lives.
I have been teaching for about 8 years. I mainly teach ESL classes to children who are around the age of 5. I have many projects myself and love the following topics: hydroponics, aquaponics, bullying, hygiene and art. If you have other suggestions please don't hesitate to make those known to me.
I am a world traveler and have been to more than 25 countries. It's vital to never stop learning. I think taking the classroom out of the classroom and into the world can truly open someone's mind and create bonds of empathy and inclusion. I want to bring this viewpoint into each of my classes.

Things to keep in mind:
1) My goal is to keep classes as close to the allotted time frame as possible. However, some classes with higher enrollment may run a few minutes over. If a learner needs to leave at the scheduled end time they are welcome to exit. A class with low enrollment might end a few minutes early but this is rare.
2) You know your child better than I do so if they would benefit from a particular method of teaching or type of encouragement than don't hesitate to make that known to me.
3) Classes that don't meet the minimum number of learners will likely be taught but parents will likely be contacted the day before to inquire about their preferences. Some classes are best experienced with other learners so these will automatically be cancelled and learners will be asked about which class they can be transferred to.
4) Classes will begin at the scheduled time, even if all learners are not in the classroom. I will be focusing on the students in class so will not be able to respond to emails or chat messages from parents not in class. Thanks for understanding.
5) I will wait 10 minutes before exiting the classroom if no students show up. Please reach out to me to let me know how I can help after class if an emergency arose that prevented your young one from joining.
